Boy Scout Troop 25 is part of the Boy Scouts of America, Hudson Valley Council, Rockland District. The Troop is sponsored by the Suffern American Legion Post #859 and meets at the Cherry Lane Elementary School
Troop 25 meets every Thursday (note change from previous years) from 7:30PM to 9:00PM in the gymnasium at the Cherry Lane School. The meetings are all a combination of merit badge instruction, event planning, and games (dodge ball, etc). Dress is casual; Scouts are expected to wear their Troop 25 T-shirts. Occassionally we will meet at another location (for example: the swimming pool at the High School) so if you miss a meeting always call someone to be sure the next meeting has not been changed. Remember there are no meetings when school is not in session.
Saturday, March 17th to Sunday, March 18th - Camping at Alpine Scout Camp. Please have your son indicate at the March 8th meeting if he and either of his parents will be attending (we need one additional adult).
Saturday, March 24th - Merit Badge College. A great opporunity for Scouts to earn merit badges! This is a one day event where boys can earn multiple merit badges. Click Here to see the schedule for the day. For complete details of the event Click Here. PLEASE READ THIS THOROUGHLY. Many of the merit badges have prerequisites WHICH MUST BE COMPLETED AND FORWARDED TO THE MERIT BADGE COUNSELORS BY MARCH 10TH. Each boy must register as an individual, this is not a Troop event. To register Click Here. Please let Ken, Erin, or I know if your son has registered and for which badges.
Saturday, April 21st - Beginning backpacking through Harriman State Park.
Saturday, May 19th to Sunday, May 20th - Merit badge weekend at Camp Glen Gray.
Saturday, June 2nd to Sunday, June 3rd - Harriman hiking challenge.
Note: for all trips we need to have firm commitments no later than 1 week in advance of the trip. Unfortunately we cannot wait until the last minute to find out who is and who is not going. Please decide with your son well in advance and let us know if he is going so we can make plans for food, transportation, etc
Remember adults always welcomed on our trips.
Emergency Preparedness Award - In addition to earning merit badges and advancing in rank, there are additional awards that boys can earn. Erin Johnson has found the Emergency Preparedness Award, click here for more information. In addition to getting a pin for your sons uniform the skills learned from this award might come in handy one day!
STEM Nova Award - If any of you were at the STEAM Carnival at the Suffern HS this weekend you may have seen the table describing this program. STEM for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, is now part of the Boy Scouts of America. There are various awards that can be earned depending on what level of Scouting your son is at. Click here for details on how your son can earn these awards. Like Emergency Preparedness above, earning this award will help your son learn skills which will help him throughout his life.
Keep America Beautiful Badge - Erin has also found this badge. Like the above awards, a nice additon to your son's uniform and a way for your son to learn useful skills.
